Black House Burgers (Bali, Indonesia)
If you think only Western countries can make good burgers think again, In Bali we discovered this place that makes amazing burgers and it is better than some of the ones we have here in New Zealand. Black Hose Burgers is named as of the Best Burgers in Indonesia on TripAdvisor, it was also Featured in food guides, news sites and magazines like ESCAPE Australia, Coconut Bali, Tatler Indonesia, KOMPAS and Tribun Bali. Located in the quiet street of Jl. Benesari, it was quite hard to find at the first time as it is one of those alley ways that branch out from the main street of Jln Poppies II, we passed by the street entrance (without the use of GPS) 3 times until we figured it out.
It was a nice and clean small restaurant, probably can only fit 15 people. Came in here around 2 PM so it was not busy, only one family was dining in apart from us. Menu is quite simple, which most of you know that I like. One pager, 5 different meat burgers, 3 vegetarian burgers, some extras and drinks. With the meat burgers you have an option to have it in beef or chicken but they have one specific burger just for pork lovers.
What we got are their version of cheese burger, the Ms Cheesy (IDR 45000), a burger with 70 grams of ground beef, lettuce, sliced cucumber, sliced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, rucola/arugula, onions, sautéed mushroom and tomato sauce.
I also got a hot and spicy version called Nuclear (IDR 65000), a bigger patty at 120 grams of ground meat, lettuce, sliced cucumber, sliced tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, chilli paste, fresh cut chilli, onions, basil leaves and chilli sauce. With this I was warned that it was really hot, and recommended that they separate the chillies so I can adjust to what I want. I know I can take it but better be safe than sorry.
Each burger are served with 100 grams of French fries and one 240 ml mineral water and you have the option to get it in charcoal bun without extra cost. Burgers were great, patty was juicy and tender and the bunds was so soft, sauces used were amazing, top notch and the hot was legitimately hot. I can handle it but it was pushing me to my limits. Great burgers, definitely one of the best ones I tried.
Juices were top quality as well, thick and true to its taste. We grabbed some Tropicana Smoothie (IDR 26000), which is a mixture of Pineapple Lime, very refreshing specially with the hot and humid Bali weather.
Then we also have the Mango Smoothie (IDR 26000), equally as good, tastes like mango and not the instant things you can get on some places in Auckland.
Then this Very Berry (IDR 26000), a concoction of Banana, Raspberry, Strawberry, Cranberry and Blueberry which we agree it very berry.
All juices are very tasty, you know they put a high concentration of fruit in there. It was so good it tastes something in between a smoothie and fruit itself, you can make this as your dessert.
I love the place, everything in it. Clean, out of the busy street, very welcoming staff and the food was great but what even more important is that it was cheap as well, way much cheaper than your $5.00 McDonalds meal. If your heading to Bali make sure you try this place, you will thank me for it.
