Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard (Tanunda, Australia)

Summit Road in Mount Lofty was one of the known post codes in South Australia where the summer houses of the rich and famous was once located. During the 1983 Ash Wednesdays bushfire most of these properties were destroyed or severely damaged but some of them were restored like the Mt Lofty House.

Mount Lofty House was built between 1852 and 1858 as a summer residence, was destroyed then restored to its former glory, now it is an impressive boutique hotel and restaurant overlooking the beautiful Piccadilly Valley. We had a tour there before going to where the real Mount Lofty winery is, like my description it was impressive, meticulously maintained to make sure the guests enjoy their stay.

Twenty Kilometres away lie their vineyard, a short 20 minutes ride through the forest range. A very quiet and secluded place, such a nice drive away from the busy streets of Adelaide. Upon arriving we were greeted happily by our host and explained a little bit about the vineyard. After the short intro they also let us do some hands-on vineyard work of removing the old branches then let the new one’s crawl on the wire. Minutes later we headed up inside and have their wine tasting. This was one of the best wine tasting I ever had where each wine they presented (6 types to be precise) was accompanied by a cocktail dish that perfectly complements with each other.

What was served were their 2017 Sauvignon Blanc, 2017 Riesling, 2016 Chardonnay, 2017 Pinot Noir Rose, 2015 Old Pump Shed Pinot Noir, 2016 Shiraz and 2015 Late Harvest Riesling. Where it was accompanied by different finger foods that was well thought of. My favourite was 2015 Old Pump Shed Pinot Noir and 2017 Pinot Noir Rose, that shows the Kiwi side in me, Kiwis love their Pinot Noir, light and easy to drink perfect with any meal. The 2015 Old Pump Shed Pinot Noir, is kind of fruity, hints of berries with light floral bouquet while the 2017 Pinot Noir Rose is light and crisp, taste of fresh strawberries and cherries with a dry finish, very refreshing wine, a good summer drink.

I did not have a chance to take photos of the food as they were gone in seconds after getting out of the kitchen but trust me, this is one of the best tasting I ever tried.
