Plush Tanunda Hotel (Tanunda, Australia)
By working with a large travel company sometimes you don’t know which place you will be visiting next, I have been in a lot of remote places and our restaurant today was one of it. Tanunda, this was the first time I heard this place let alone visit it, North of Adelaide it was one of the remote suburbs of this wine region. It was literally a small town and I think you can pass by its main centre in less than five minutes. This is where we had our conference as well as a lot of wine tasting and for our dinner we chose to have it in Plush Tanunda Hotel a very old iconic Victorian style (I guess) hotel in the middle of their town.
It was a weekday when we visited the place and it was quite quiet, very few customers apart from us which disrupted everyone’s peace, there were around thirty of us, definitely very visible in a town like this. The staff did placed us in a private hall away from most as we can get noisy specially when everyone was geared to drink for the night.
But before the booze we did had some feed to start with, starting with some Ocean Catch (AU$29.00), a large platter a selection of salt and pepper prawns and calamari, with beer battered hoki fillet and crumbed scallops served with chips, salad and tartare sauce. A great bar food specially with a nice ice-cold beer, fried and oily, nothing can go wrong with this one.
For my mains I did ordered an American T-Bone 400gm (AU$30.00), a prime fillet aged 21 days and cooked medium rare, it was sort and turf style where it was served with prawns in a creamy garlic sauce (AU$8.00), a good chunk of meat which definitely filled me up. After my order some of my colleagues told me that I should have tried the Schnitzel as it was the special dish of this town, if I had known I had ordered that instead.
After our mains drinking commenced and there where unlimited supplies of beer and wine. There were pool tables and dart boards which we did enjoyed after moving from our private hall.
It was a good dinner, food was not really that special but it was good enough to complete my day alongside with some good booze.
