Café BBQ Duck (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)
I would have never known this place if one of the owners (I think) have not been telling everyone who passed by their place that they offer free serving of soy sauce chicken for every two main dishes ordered from the menu. We got easily convinced as we were looking for somewhere to dine in, there were many diners at that time and it was a good deal, it was a no brainier. Located at the lower part of High Street, this place is not hard to find as it is just nearly beside the Lord Freyberg Statue.
As we sat down and started to decide what to order, they immediately gave us some free soup which apparently was the tastiest free soups I ever had on a Chinese restaurant, it was not as meaty as the one they serve at Golden Century Restaurant but this is delicious. A little later we decided to go for the Braised Pork Belly (NZ$21.80) and Stir-Fried Prawn with Vegetables (NZ$24.80) which gives us a serving of Soy Sauce Chicken.
Servings was ample and these three dishes can serve four or five people, a really good deal if you come to think of it as you are just buying two dishes. But was it really worth it? Well yes, dishes were indeed tasty, vegetables from what I experience was fresh and crisp. Staff were friendly as well and glad to accommodate any of your requests and because of that instead of having milk tea on another place we decided to have it here.
We grabbed a couple to finish the dinner, one was Taro Milk Tea (NZ$5.00) and another one was Red Bean Milk Tea(NZ5.00), both was good even though the owner said they don’t specialize on this one and instead recommended another place.
So, will I come back here? Well yes, it is very affordable and like I said people and food here was great.
