Bestie Cafe (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)

I rarely go to cafes if you had noticed it, the flavours I got from these places does not match with the flavour profile that I want and grew up with but sometimes there are places that are exceptions like this place we have now. Bestie Cafe located in K’Roads St Kevin’s Arcade is one of those, this hip and vintage like cafe may not look inviting to most but they do serve some great food. The place looks old, the menu will freak out the inner OCD in you but who cares if the food is great especially when you are seated on that big window that looks over Myers Park.

We had lunch in here, it was an easy task to view the menu, unlike those Chinese restaurants where you are presented with an encyclopaedia of Chinese cuisine, here you have exactly 11 options. As most of you know we love pork so the first thing that made my eye twinkle is that Prawn and Lemongrass fritters, House Smoked Belly, Kimchi and Pickled Carrot (NZ$24.00), it was an explosion of flavours and texture, every element is taken care for, feels like I am having a dish from a nice restaurant.

We also had this Flatbread with Spicy Chorizo, Labneh, chilli fried egg, house-made pickles and fresh herbs (NZ$19.50), another flavour bomb. Similar to the pork dish it was a circus of different flavours and texture, even colours, really nice and tasty dish.

Dishes were amazing, it’s like a mix of different cuisines happily joined in one amazing plate, can’t wait to try their other offering the next time we visit this place. This is not your average cafe, none of those standard stuff, only the good ones. And yes, did I mention they make great coffee too.
