Let’s start by saying these guys have the best donuts I tried so far to this date, it’s just a masterpiece on its own, perfect size, perfect texture and flavour, even without the syringe that accompanies it I bet you this will be the best donuts you will ever try in your life.
Where we visited Napier several weeks back I was looking for great restaurants and I discovered this place. Looking at online reviews people are raving about the donuts they sell. At first, I was sceptical as I had tried a really great one and I swore it was the best I tried then this happened. Though I tried Al’s Delis donuts at room temperature, with Mr D’s I tried a freshly cooked one, still hot of the kitchen so it’s quite hard to compare both, like comparing apples and oranges. Will Als’ delis doughnut be good when it’s hot or will Mister D’s doughnut will be good when it’s cold, I haven’t tried but what I know they are good as they are served.
The doughnut has that good bounce, dense but not too heavy. Chewy, warm, lightly seasoned with sugar and served with the syrup of your choice, it’s a perfect bite after perfect bite, we really enjoyed it. They only have 4 types a simple cinnamon sugar (NZ$6.00) or with one fix of custard, jelly or chocolate (NZ$7.50) which eliminates the stress for someone choosing what flavour to order. I also believe it is prepared fresh as the ones we had was still hot, and yes like most good doughnuts, this thing is deep fried.
Ok enough of the doughnut talk because Mister D also offer other dishes like a selection of breakfast items, from breads, eggs and one of the savoury dishes I tried in the form of baked beans, ham hock, sourdough (NZ$16.50). They also serve good coffee, which is great with that doughnut.
So, if you ever pass this place in the future do yourself a favour, get some of those bloody doughnuts and see what I am raving about like all the other netizens that tried it.
