Crusty Crab (Russel, New Zealand)
If there is one place to eat in Russel then this is it, located in the Town Centre it’s not easy to miss specially at lunch time when people flock and queue for their orders. I heard a lot of nice reviews of this place but fish and chips were not always my first choice when fast food comes into mind, from online to friends experiences they all suggest to give this place a try.
After a solemn mass in a nice small church called “National Catholic Shrine of Saint Peter Chanel” we had lunch here to see why people rave about it. We ordered the fish of the day which was gurnard one on regular chips and another wedges.
I also ordered different fried stuff, one scallop, one mussel and a crab stick.
On opening the paper packet, I was surprised how large the gurnard was, I was thinking it was a small piece of fish as I buy them a lot at my fishmonger but the ones they have here is even larger than fried hoki you find on some fish and chips shop. Fish was so fresh, the batter was so crunchy and it did not feel oily at all, breading was the right amount. Chips was nice as well, soft on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. Everything was delicious, perhaps the best fish and chips I tried to date.
I was changed, now because of this I am in the search for a really good fish and chips and this one is quite hard to beat.
