Maui Brewing Co (Waikiki, Hawaii)
Of all of the restaurant reviews we posted here I guess this is one of the places overseas that I have been more than three times. It’s quite a new place since the first time we visited Hawaii the in New Year of 2015 the building this place was still under construction planning then 2 years later a whole shopping mall complex just showed up in the middle of Waikiki. It’s a fairly large place and their drinks choices are amazing, just for the beers alone their bar features 36 craft and specialty beers on tap. There is also live entertainment daily complete with a small performance stage.
While drinks selection is quite extensive the food selection was decent as well, their handcrafted dishes utilizes the best in fresh locally-sourced produce is reinforced with an artisanal, natural island-inspired cuisine. From pickles, pot stickers, fries, burgers, pizza and steaks, they have everything sorted I guess even with the pickiest eaters.
Of all my visits it always starts with a beer and my choice was always Bikini Blonde (US$6.75), a clean, crisp & refreshing helles which is perfect with the Hawaiian weather. I can easily scull 3 glasses of this it’s served really cold on a hot and humid weather.
While enjoying our beers we also ordered some starters. First was this Edamame-pea pot stickers (US$13.00), basically a vegetarian pot sticker filled with edamame and water chestnuts served with chile-basil dipping sauce. Even though this does not contain meat, it still is very tasty even the meat lovers would never notice it’s made entirely with vegetables.
Crispy calamari (US$14.50) is next, an ice-cold beer will be lonely without this. I guess for me this is the most suitable side dish with a beer. This crispy concoction is served with Sriracha mayo, pineapple, green onion, lime and Thai chili sauce.
And we also had Chicken Wings (US$14.00) for those who don’t like seafood, served with huli sauce, crunchy slaw and lemon-curry vin.
After a couple or three beers our mains arrived, at this point I was quite full as we have 3 appetizers already luckily I ordered some fish not steak. I got me some Macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi (US$32.00) served with stir fry local veggies, aloha rice and house made red Thai curry sauce, it’s a Hawaiian as it can get. I loved it specially the Thai curry sauce which has a good kick on it.
I love this place, I guess you would know by now since I have been here three times already. The food was great but what’s even more important is that their beer was amazing. It is Centrally located with a rooftop view, so if you ever visit Waikiki in the future and want to have good beer, this is the place.
