El Sizzling Lomito (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)

These guys sell great steak sandwiches but what I found out is that they make the best chips in Auckland. I went here to have a great steak sandwich but ended up in eating the best chips I tried so far.

El Sizzling Lomito is an Argentinian Food Stall located in the Food Workshop in K’ Road, a medium sized eatery where I guess seats somewhere around 20 people, some on usual tables and some on bar table and stools.

It was quite full when we had our lunch here so we were seated on the bar tables where you have full view of their chefs preparing the dishes and cooking those wonderful meat on homemade charcoal grill.

Menu was quite straightforward it’s just meat, sandwiches, sides and drinks, I like it this way where restaurants just concentrate on what they do best, in their case, the grilled meats.

Since I was placed in the bar I was tempted in ordering tap beers as the taps was just in front of me. Like their food beer options were only five, Monteith’s Pilsner, Export 33, Heineken, Pointers Pale Ale and Chomp Black Don. I grabbed some Pointers Pale Ale ($8.50)

While enjoying my beer our orders were placed, I was thinking of getting the Bondiolita which is a Grilled pork scotch with salsa criolla and fresh cilantro, fried kumara and homemade mayo-chimichurri but ended up getting Steak Lomito ($20.00) after I saw the nice piece of beef on the grill. Steak Lomito basically is a grilled steak, melted Emmental cheese, onion and red capsicum escabeche, fresh iceberg lettuce and homemade aioli.

The steaks were perfectly cooked, medium to my request. It was juicy and very tasty, ciabatta was chewy with a crunchy surface. The pickled and oiled capsicum plus the onions balances out everything. It was quite a filling sandwich add to that the great chips they serve, this is one of the best sandwich lunches that I had.

The beer was easy to drink, light and fresh so I grabbed another one.

I think I will be back here and try their pork sandwich. Definitely a good place to have lunch, menu was not stressful as you only have an option of pork, beef, chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetarian. And take my word on this, their chips for me is 10/10, it will be quite hard to beat.
