Bird on a Wire (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)
We’ve been wanting to try this place for the longest time but every time we have a chance to do so something crops up not until now. We have friends to told us to try this place, we even met someone who worked as a chef here and most of them told some good stories about this place and that what we are going to find out.
Like the name of place suggest these guys sell mainly chicken and the sides that accompany them and that what we tried plus some burgers and beer. Conveniently located in Ponsonby Central if you haven’t tried this you may want to give it a shot.
I started with a beer where I grabbed a couple of Sawmill Pilsner by the glass ($9.00), it was quite warm when we visited this place and the beer that was served is in a perfect temperature, it was easy to drink and quite light. I quite enjoyed it and I had time to taste it properly as our orders took quite some time to arrive, we are literally waiting for our chooks to cook.
While waiting we tried some burgers there where three options, what we chose was the Good Bird Burger ($15.00) basically it’s a Marinated Grilled Chicken Thigh with Ranch, Mustard, Cheese, Tomato and Cos Lettuce. That melting cheese on the photo is a testament what that thing tasted like. This time the photo does justice.
Minutes later our chickens arrive, we all got what they call Chicken Feeds and had three “For One” servings ($16.00) which consists of a quarter rotisserie chicken, salad of your choice and a warm bread.
There were 6 salad options and we grabbed two different ones. First was the Fattoush which is made with tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, radish, herbs and sumac pita chips.
The other salad was Greek potato salad with tomato, cucumber, olives, feta and a basil mayo.
Chicken was amazing, when I had my first bite it reminded me of the lechon manok back in the Philippines less the lemon grass or the rotisserie chicken they sell in Paris on road side. It was so juicy, tasty and very tender. The bread was great as well, instantly became a fan, I love the texture and the density of that warm bread.
I like their concept and for $16.00 per person I think its not that expensive it’s not cheap either, it’s just priced right so even if you have it once or twice a week it would not hurt your budget.

New Zealand is pretty far away from me, so I dont see myself making it to this playce any time soon, but I was nonetheless inerested to read your post. I love the name, Bird on a Wire. I hope that’s also the name of a dish they serve there.
A place with an interesting name and mouthwatering dishes for sure.
