Ippudo Macquarie (Sydney, Australia)

This post was long due and this short trip happened September last year when I tried this Hololens from Microsoft as we were planning to develop something for my company. It’s a fancy new technology and I guess for those who love gadgets it’s highly possible that you have seen You Tube videos of it. Ok enough with the tech talk I might bore the readers who are not interested on it but if you want to read further about it then head over to my other blog to see what’s it all about.

Now back to food! I love my work with a great work life balance at the same time with my role I have the opportunity to travel a lot and with it comes with culinary experience and for this post I will talk about a Ramen place that I discovered near the place I stayed in Macquarie. Ippudo is located in Macquarie Shopping Centre easily accessible as it’s on one of the entrances beside the big bus station, you won’t miss the place. I went there on a lunch time I did not have a hard time thinking of what to eat as they have a really simple menu and I like it.

With just 3 items on the lunch set, it can’t be better than this. This is how a menu should be designed because the last thing I don’t want to do is to be stressed on choosing what to eat when I am hungry and in a hurry. I chose the Karaage Set for just an additional AU$4.00 then you have a karaage side dish and some salad together with your ramen.

For the ramen I chose Akamaru Shinaji ($16.00) basically Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth enhanced with special blended miso paste & fragrant oil. Served with thin noodles, simmered pork belly, bean sprouts, black fungus and spring onions. I love tonkotsu hence it was my first choice, when done right it would be really good like how they made it in here, just look at all that cloudiness on the broth, that’s the collagen melted from boiling pork bones for long period of time.

It’s not just the broth which good, I also loved the texture of the noodles it was firm and cooked to perfection. How about the chicken? well no doubt I loved it not because it was fried but because they made it to my expectation, this is how a real Japanese fried chicken is done, nice crispiness outside, juicy inside with lots of umami flavour.

I love this place, menu is not confusing and the make good ramen and chicken, I will definitely try their other branches and offerings if I saw one of them in the future. The serving was quite large so your hunger will definitely be satisfied with this lunch set.

After this lunch I am off to Brisbane but still have some time to kill before heading to the airport, I need to have some serious walk after that heavy lunch so I decided to stop over at Circular Quay station and take some photos of the Sydney Harbour.

It was cloudy which is nice for photos and it was not hot as well, with 3 hours to kill it’s the perfect way to end my day in Sydney.

That’s nice – you get one of the sets for an extra $4.00. I would pick the same as you too.
