Beef Misono

I dare you to search online and look for any beef misono dishes posted by a Japanese blogger, I bet you will not find one and most of the ones you will see are copycat Tokyo Tokyo recipes that were inspired by a popualar Japanese fast food chain in the Philippines. The only closest thing to a real Japanese Misono is a teppanyaki restaurant in Kobe that was established during the 1940’s.

Misono in Japan is a teppanyaki steakhouse that serves high quality Kobe beef which are selected from A4 & A5 ranked Japanese black cattle breed and I guess this became the inspiration of the ones who first established the Tokyo Tokyo restaurant hence they named one of their popular dishes as such. Though the Beef Misono dish back home is not made with high quality beef like what Misono serves I guess the cooking method is the same where it is cooked teppanyaki style, the beef used is thinly sliced so it would not be tough to chew and seems like it mimics a better cut of cattle. Regardless of any of its origin this was a big hit back home especially during the time I was there (not sure now), along with some grilled vegetables and the famous red ice tea it’s a proper simple comfort dish.

I totally forgot about this dish and was just reminded one time by my colleague when we were having food discussions at the office during lunch time, I immediately added that to my to cook list and here is the result

Very easy recipe. I can see this being in my weekday repertoire. Just one comment, it will be even easier to follow if the recipe list follows the order by which the ingredients are added. For example, salt and pepper should follow beef rather than being at the end, followed by oil, soy sauce, then butter. Other than that, great website! 🙂
