Uncle Man’s (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)

We just stumbled upon this place after looking for somewhere to eat in K’Road, initially we thought of having some kebabs but it looks like the skewered meats that we saw on the spit from the two places we visited was not fresh so we decided to have something else.

Then we saw this place, the front of the restaurant I think is just less than 2 meters wide so it is quite hard to find this place but inside the place was big as its layout is in a triangular shape. Just after Satya and Pop Pok Thai if you’re heading to Ponsonby direction so watch out on the signs as it is easily missed.

The staff specially the cook were mostly Malaysian apart from the lovely Filipina waitress that served us. This means we will have an authentic experience as possible. As we sat we saw one of the staff making Roti the Malaysian way with lots of oil of course (this is what makes it good). As the menu was provided I was happy to see usual dishes I usually have when I lived in Malaysia. From noodles, to rice dishes

and even drinks, it suddenly made me miss Kuala Lumpur.

Now it’s time to order and that roti being made by one of the staff made me drool instantly so that will be on my list, with that roti we chose the option to have a chicken curry ($11.00). This order comes with two roti which made me even more excited.

Next order was Seafood Nyonya Curry Laksa ($12.50) which is basically egg and vermicelli noodles in coconut curry soup, topped with prawn, squid, fish balls, tofu, boiled egg, bean sprouts, spring onion and crispy shallots.

Both dishes were amazing, the dishes I tried somehow made me feel I was in Malaysia for a moment. I know the real taste of their dishes as I lived there for four years and I can say what they serve here is authentic from the spicy creamy laksa, the flaky roti with the mildly hot chicken curry I all love them. I planned to have some drinks specially the Sirap Bandung or even tempted to ask if they serve Michael Jackson but the servings were huge and I don’t have enough room for it so maybe next time as I will definitely come back here.
