Miann (Auckland CDB, New Zealand)
Thanks to Instagram we got introduced to this place, a discovery after my wife saw their scrumptious desserts posted by Aucklanders. After having a dinner in the city we managed to drop by this place at Fort St. At first we thought they had moved as it’s near the end of the street far from other restaurants and eateries in the place.
The moment I stepped in the place it reminds me of Lindt in Zurich but in a much smaller scale. It is a feast for the eyes as their desserts really looked good and definitely Instagram worthy from macarons, pastries and their popular gelato on sticks everything is very drool worthy.
It was quite hard to order as they all look amazing and you want to try them all but we don’t have deep pockets and space left in our stomach after having a dinner from another restaurant so we just try some desserts from each category. First we have their gelato on stick. Look at these beauties.
There were tons of selection most probably more than a dozen but after a hard decision we chose the Salted Caramel and Hazelnut Gelato
We then moved to the pastry selection
Again it is another hard decision to make from eclairs, mini cakes and tarts everything looks like a top pick but what interests us more was this Lemon Curd Meringue and Pistachio Eclair; a flavour combination we have not tried before.
Finally we decide to check on their menu. They have quite good of selections but there were no pictures then the server showed us almost everything on the menu as she serves it to other patrons so we had an idea on what they were and how they looked like.
From the A la Carte, it was the balloon which caught our interests because of its shape and the mixture of fruits with macadamia. Basically it’s a frozen dessert made with Watermelon, Strawberry, Pomegranate and Macadamia.
So how was it? We find the Salted Caramel and Hazelnut Gelato good. This reminds me of the Filipino sorbetes when the salted ice comes into contact with the ice cream. This is just a bit saltier than the usual Salted Caramel ice creams we had. Hence, we ranked this as #2 among our order.
Lemon Curd Meringue and Pistachio Eclair on the other was not delightful at all. As expected it should be a good palate cleanser as the balance of acidity and sweetness was just right but too dry for us. This was our least favourite on our order.
But the Balloon was simply phenomenal from the mixture of flavours to how it was presented was delightful; a frozen sphere filled with ice cream inside on top of cold mixed fruits. This is not your everyday dessert.
Check this out after having lunch or dinner in Auckland CBD area and experience what desserts they serve best.
