Kang Nam Station (Auckland CBD, New Zealand)

I always pass by this corner restaurant on Mayoral Drive and Queen St but never actually dined in here until this time. When you go inside it looks like a takeaway place as there are few tables on display but little did I know they have a big back section where people are usually seated.

From the name I guess you would know it is a Korean restaurant, in fact it’s a typical Korean restaurant where is serves traditional Korean stir fried dishes, noodles, soups and pancakes. They have quite a menu but nothing like a Chinese menu where there are 1001 options, the menu here is quite easy to grasp and I think there are less than 50 options.

What I ordered was Mixed Squid Pork ($20.00) which is a sweet, savoury, spicy stir fried squid and pork served with rice and several banchan like egg, sweet potatoes (or it might be cassava), bean sprouts and some sort of kimchi not sure what it’s made of. I love the flavours of this dish as well as its spiciness.

Another order was this Seafood Pancake ($20.00) which basically is a savoury pancake filled with prawns, squid and chives. This was equally as good as my first order.

Kang Nam Station 3

Overall the food was great, it was prepared as you order (apart from the sides) but it’s quite pricey for a lunch usually at this price it’s already for dinner. Anyways their serving was big and one of it can serve 2 people so I guess it’s just right at that price.

Both of these dishes look excellent, but those seafood pancakes really caught my interest.
