Cake pops is a type of cake where it is served in a lollipop form. It is usually made out of cake crumbs mixed with icing or chocolate formed to make shapes like spheres and cubes, a final coating of chocolate or icing is then applied together with some decorative elements such as candy sprinkles.

Cake pops

  • 9 X 3 chocolate cake or vanilla cake
  • Chocolate frosting (for chocolate cake)/ butter cream cheese frosting (for vanilla cake)
  • 4045 Lollipop sticks
  • 125g White or dark Chocolate melts
  • Sprinkles
  • Marshmallows
  • 1 tbsp Shortening (optional)
  • Styrofoam

Butter Cream Cheese frosting

  • 250g cream cheese
  • 75g unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp confectioners sugar

Chocolate frosting

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 100 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 tbsp milk, room temp
  • 1 tsp vanilla

  1. In a mixing bowl, crumble the entire cake by hands.
  2. Add the frosting to the crumbled cake and mix it evenly.
  3. Shape the moistened cake into a ball until it makes about 45 balls depending on size. Line the balls in a baking sheet apart from each other.
  4. Meanwhile, melt chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over (but not touching) simmering water. Add shortening only if you prefer to lighten up a bit of the thickened chocolate.
  5. Dip each of the lollipop stick into the melted chocolate and glue in the centre of each cake balls. With the sticks upside-down on each cake balls, keep in the fridge for about 5-10 mins to hardened the glue and keep the lollipop sticks upright.
  6. Coat each of the cake pops evenly with the melted chocolate. (Note: If the melted chocolate begins to hardened and get lumpy, you can always repeat step 4). Put sprinkles on top or decorate as desired before the coat dries completely.
  7. Place the cake pops into the Styrofoam not touching each other.
