New York Slice Pizzeria (Brisbane, Australia)
I guess this is one of the hardest things to review, Pizza. Why? because most of the pizza taste really good and barely you could see crappy ones (at least for me), like me I might have tried one but it might be too long to remember. Pizza is a safe food to sell or serve as they taste good in any state hot or straight from the fridge, and as long as you have a good base then usually everything follows. But for me there are pizza’s that can stand out like Toto’s from Toto’s (popular for those meter long pizza’s) in Auckland where it’s just a simple concoction of Tomato pulp, Parma ham, rocket & Parmesan and Frutti Di Mare from Gina’s in Auckland where the toppings are made out of Prawns, calamari, shrimp & mussels with Italian parsley. Now for this post I wont review those two that I just mentioned but it is more for the New York Slice Pizzeria in Brisbane, Australia.
Trust me this is one hell of a good pizza that’s definitely worth a try. We tried this accidentally when we had our vacation in Australia as all of the restaurants are full the day we were strolling at the CBD and I am really hungry, while walking and looking for places to eat we saw this pizza place on Albert Street in Queen Street Mall, the store is not fancy and it’s just small, there’s no tables and chairs as well so you have to eat it outside, there are a lot of park benches outside though but it was drizzling during that time. There are a lot of flavours to choose from so where a bit confused on what to buy so we just asked the vendor to give us their best seller. He said we should try the ‘The New York Style’ which is their version of Super Supreme or Chicken & spinach special which is made out of Spinach, roast chicken breast, semi dried tomato, garlic, mozzarella & romano cheese. Now after he said that I am confused which to buy as I wanted to try two flavours he just mention and I can’t buy two pizza because they’re extremely huge they only offer it in 18 inches, definitely we will not be able to finish 2 whole pizza’s and its a bit pricey for a street pizza as it sells at AU$35 (US$35, €26, NZ$46, PHP 1550). But after looking again at the menu they have the option to do it half and half for the same price and that’s what we ordered.
The pizza is pre cooked as you can see from the pictures, and this might turn you off like me when I first saw it. Their pizza’s are on display and you choose from the window. They will pick that pizza you want and place it in the oven. Then I guess after 5 minutes your pizza is hot and ready. Now we went outside and look for a covered bench where we can indulge on those goodies, to our luck we just found one just in front of the “News Agency” a news paper stand and it is covered.
I tried the chicken and spinach first and it’s really good, the first bite was heavenly. They taste fresh even they’re on the display aisle; the cheese is silky, gooey and creamy; the dough is perfectly done with the right thickness together with that chewy and crunchy texture; and the combination of flavours is just simply awesome. After I finished one, I am half full as I said they’re extremely huge. So for my second slice, it’s the “New York Style”, the taste is really good, way much better than the Super Supremes that I tried but if I would choose one, I love the first one.
So if you are visiting Brisbane, you definitely should try this one out as I rate it a 10 out of 10 and make sure you buy the whole pizza as you can save more (1 slice is AU$7.00 if I can remember right) and definitely you will have a good breakfast the next day like we do.
anyways,
Agree, most pizzas are great. I only had one bad pizza – the dough was still raw. But that was only once.
I never used to like pizza, but am slowly being converted LOL. Good to know where to get a good one, if we are in Brisbane then I’ll keep this place in mind. Thanks!
I love NYC pizza.. well I’m biased because I live here lol. But that pizza looked amazing. I am totally hungry right now lol. Happy Valentine’s Day.
So nice to see you and your family!! 🙂 That pizza looks just marvelous, especially the spinach/chicken combination!
Those pizzas look yummy. I am from NYC and I also, am a tad bias 🙂 But pizza is another one of those delicious magical creations that take on a whole new flavor, depending on where you are. I wish I could try one of those!
